Life-Saving Program Now Available in Virginia

More than two years ago, the United Kingdom introduced the “Crash Card"; a small card that provides information about the rider should they become incapacitated by an accident.
The "Rider Alert" card is now available in Virginia and is modeled after the "Crash Card." This card goes inside the lining of the riders’ helmet and contains information regarding medical treatment, which the rider may not be able to provide if unconscious. This saves time in getting treatment to the rider, time that they are often unable to waste. A 1-inch round sticker goes on the outside of the rider’s helmet to alert emergency responders of the information. The sticker also warns about good Samaritans removing the helmet, in case there are injuries to the head and neck.
The program began in the Richmond, VA area and news has traveled fast. States such as Maryland, Texas and Hawaii are already discussing the value of the program. The Virginia program is in partnership with the Richmond Ambulance Authority, the Bon Secours Virginia Health system and Motorcycle Virginia Inc.
